What will the project accomplish?

In the coming years, one of the major tasks of administrations in European cities will be the encouragement of citizens to become civically engaged and active in putting forth proposals and initiatives for common solutions on a wide range of issues.

The success of city administrations will thus be based on the ability to listen to it’s citizens as well as the non-governmental sector, and to support NGOs, social communities or movements for the development of the city.

We believe participation and social inclusion, regardless of age, social group or ethnicity, is of the utmost importance for European municipalities. Promoting local participation and cooperation should be one of the top agenda items for any municipality, thus maximizing local potential and ensuring transparent civic participation in the future of our cities. The NGO house in Riga is a prime example of how municipalities can engage in active dialogue with NGOs and citizens, and involve them in the process or urban development.
