Eutropian colleagues, Giovanni Pagano and Lukács Hayes, have participated in the EUARENAS project meeting, held last week in Helsinki, Finland. This was the first in-person meeting of the project, since its launch at the beginning of 2021. Throughout the three-day meeting consortium members shared updates on work packages, notably, on case studies, media foresight and piloting. Many of the work package leaders collected valuable inputs from colleagues working on other aspects of the project, through workshops, discussions and mini-trainings.

One great addition to the project meeting was Kirsi Verkka’s presentation on the state of the art of participation in Helsinki, focusing on citizen inclusion and participatory budgeting in particular. Ms. Verkka works as the Development Manager of the City of Helsinki, heading efforts to extend the principle and practice of participation to all internal and external affairs of the Municipality.

EUARENAS is a Horizon2020 project. It looks at different ways and means to include citizens into municipality-level decision making through the use of different participatory mechanisms and tools, tackling contemporary challenges of cities. The project includes municipalities from four pilot cities: Voru, Gdansk, Budapest and Reggio Emilia, as well as a number of organisations and universities from other European countries.
