What role can culture play in social cohesion and resilience in Ukraine after the war?

Eutropian’s Levente Polyak joined the ERSTE Foundation Policy Lab in Vienna with KEA European Affairs and representatives of various cultural institutions and research organisations to discuss community-led, cooperative, non-speculative models for reconstructing Ukrainian cultural heritage spaces and institutions.

Policy Labs is a think tank platform of ERSTE Foundation and the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine where experts can debate, exchange practices, design new processes and policies for the Ukraine reconstruction process.

The latest of a series of  workshops and brainstorming sessions took place on 12-14 April 2023, with Ukrainian and international professionals from various fields discussing the topics of culture, social resilience and regional development of Ukraine.

Levente Polyak contributed with Eutropian’s experience in community-driven urban development, ecosystem-building and adaptive heritage reuse processes. He also presented the results of brainstorming on cultural heritage supporting transformation: It is crucial to better recognise the role of the civil society, volunteers, and self-organised communities, as they can be a key part of the decision-making process.

Community-led, cooperative, non-speculative models models were at the core of Eutropian’s book Funding the Cooperative City, available online for download.
