Helsinki, the Finnish capital, and Fingal, metropolitan area of Dublin, have met to share their practices on affordable rents.
Three days of exchanges were facilitatated by Eutropian’s Daniela Patti, who will produce a report to share the learnings along with other cities facing the challenge of creating public policy to ensure low cost rentals.
For nearly one century Finland had carried out a public policy on affordable rents and in particular the city of Helsinki runs through a public mortgage system. Nearly 30% of the housing, through a subsidised mechanism, where single people, the working poor, youngsters and the elderly have the possibility of having a home in a social mix housing solution.
